Abstract
The present research paper contemplates the profound legacy of Kamala Das, one of the foremost poets to emerge from the vanguard of Indian English poetry following Independence. Her bold, brisk, and blazing portrayal of love, sex, and self-shattered the entrenched norms of a male-dominated literary landscape. Das, primarily a poet of love and sex, elevates love to a divine realm, emphasizing its unifying power in forging inseparable bonds between lovers. Sex, in her verse, serves as a vital conduit for expressing love's fervor towards the beloved, a biological urge intricately intertwined with the emotional landscape. She champions the celebration rather than repression of love's manifestations, advocating for the physical consummation of love in all its forms. Through her poetry, Das presents a somber yet captivating tableau of human emotions, including love, sex, and the intricate complexities of the human psyche. Moreover, her work transcends the personal, offering a universalized portrayal of the self and its myriad experiences. This study seeks to navigate the multifaceted layers of Das's poetic oeuvre, shedding light on her profound exploration of love, sex, and the human condition.
